PLEASANTVILLE, NEW YORK, USA, May 25, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- New York brain injury lawyers De Caro & Kaplen, LLP, encourage students wishing to apply for their annual scholarship fund to submit their online application before the July 1st deadline.

Now in its second year, the $1,000 scholarship is open to students who have survived traumatic brain injury and are pursuing a college education.

According to Michael V. Kaplen, a partner at De Caro & Kaplen, LLP and a three-term president of the Brain Injury Association of New York State, the firm has received numerous applications from brain injury survivors across the US, “This year’s fund has already received a wide number of applications, however, there is still time to apply. As long as you apply before the 1st July deadline you will be eligible for the fund.”

Shana De Caro, a partner at De Caro & Kaplen, LLP, and secretary of the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA), explains why the firm introduced the Traumatic Brain Injury Scholarship, “Each year we allocate a portion of our firm’s fees to brain injury education, prevention, and advocacy. We introduced our scholarship in 2017 as a way to assist brain injury survivors who are pursuing a college education in the United States and were deeply moved by the number of outstanding applications we received. The bravery of the students, who choose not to allow their injury to deter pursuit of their dreams, continues to be an inspiration for us. We hope that this year’s scholarship will help a student to reach their goals.”

Applications for the 2018 Brain Injury Scholarship can be made on De Caro & Kaplen’s website at https://brainlaw.com/traumatic-brain-injury-scholarship-fund/.

To apply, students should submit an essay describing their injury, and how they overcame it while pursuing their education. Applicants should also meet this eligibility criteria:

- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident,
- Be enrolled in, or accepted to enroll at an accredited college or university within the United States,
- Have sustained a traumatic brain injury from an accident or traumatic event

Last year’s award was won by Courtney Bruun-Anderson, a graduate student pursuing a Master’s degree in social work at the New York University Silver School of Social Work.

The winner of the 2018 award will be announced on the firm’s website in September.

The New York personal injury law offices of De Caro & Kaplen, LLP focuses their practice on legal representation of traumatic brain injury survivors whose injuries were caused by vehicle collisions, unsafe buildings, dangerous construction sites, and medical malpractice.
